Inclusion

At Manchester Creative and Media Academy we are committed to providing a high quality education for all of our students, including those with special educational needs and / or disabilities.

If you wish to apply for a place at the academy and your child has special educational needs you need to apply via the normal admission procedures. If your child is offered a place at the Academy the SENCO will begin to gather information from previous schools.  We will require pupils to sit an admission test to provide an up to date literacy and numeracy level.

We realise the transition time for students can be a particularly stressful, even more so for students with SEND. That is why we try to ensure that the transition is smooth for this particular group of students.

During the transition period we will make visits to primary schools to ensure that we have all relevant information and to highlight any vulnerable pupils who would benefit from extra transition periods.

During the extra transition sessions, students are invited in for 1-3 half day sessions dependent on the individual.  They will get the opportunity to be involved in a number of social and communication activities, and to meet the SEND department and to visit the Learning Support Unit.

The SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) will make appointments to meet parents of children with SEND to discuss their particular needs.
