Admissions

MC&MA operate the Manchester Admissions Policy which is underpinned by a firm belief in inclusion. All Manchester children, regardless of their background, are welcome at the academy. We fully embrace the aims of Every Child Matters and want to ensure that MC&MA are as inclusive and welcoming as possible to all those students who wish to attend.

All admissions to secondary schools in Manchester are overseen and managed centrally by the Local Authority (LA). The LA does not operate a feeder primary model for admissions and any Manchester child may apply to any of its schools. The LA gives priority to Manchester children ahead of non Manchester residents for places in Manchester schools. The application process is through the Admissions Service.

The timescale for Year 7 admissions is:

September-October: Information booklets are produced by the LA and circulated to all Manchester primary schools for distribution to Year 6 parents and students. High schools hold open evenings which are advertised in the local press.

October: Decisions are made by parents about their choice of secondary school and notified to the LA by the end of October.

February-March: The LA notifies parents of the secondary school in which their child has been allocated a place. Schools are provided with a list of the names of students who will be joining their school in September.

March-June: Parents who are unhappy about their child’s allocation to a secondary school have the opportunity to appeal.

The Manchester Academies, together with Manchester Community and Voluntary Aided schools are fully committed to the delivery of the best possible education for ALL Manchester children and are fully supportive of the LA’s admissions policy.
