What is an Academy?

Academies are part of the government’s plans to improve children’s performance at school. Manchester’s academies provide more than an academic education. Through close links to business and employers, they strive to raise aspirations and help young people develop confidence in their abilities and optimism in their future. This new approach is designed to create more resilient young people, equipped with both the practical and emotional skills they need to cope with the challenges of living in the city.

The Manchester model for the academies is unique in that it is a ‘family’ of seven academies spread throughout the city. These academies work alongside the other schools of Manchester in order to bring about lasting change to the educational landscape of our great city.

Our Creative and Media Academies have The Manchester College as lead sponsor with Microsoft and Manchester City Council as co-sponsors. All sponsors are committed to a long-term partnership with us, our staff, students and communities. They have different areas of expertise that will link in with the city’s future job and business opportunities.

We are two distinct academies with one common purpose – to create a culture and ethos that supports our children and communities and provides opportunities for personal growth. Our young people will gain experiences that will allow them to grow into community-minded, successful individuals who care about others.
