The original concept of the Manchester Academy programme was for each of the academies to link to one of six key industry growth areas in Manchester. Academies are designed to raise expectations and standards of achievement, and to facilitate the progression and employability of young people.

The Manchester Creative and Media Academies (MCMA) are embracing this vision. Links are developing through the use of creative media and digital technologies with a wide range of businesses. Although there are two distinct academies, a boy’s and a girl’s academy, they share one common purpose and since May 2011 share one leadership team, under the Principal Helen Phillips. This enables the academies to optimise resources, maximise the impact of their best practice and truly prepare for their move to one site in September 2012.
